Brief synopsis:
|
Go to three
locations in Al’Taieu and defeat 3 NMs
at each one |
Welcome to sea, my friends! It’s been a long road to get
here, hasn’t it? I hope Al’Taieu is as impressive as it is to you as it
was to
me. Marvel at the sights, fight some of the new and bizarre monsters,
and gloat
to your friends.
I highly recommend The Monsters of
Lumoria guide for some
information on the Al’Taieu specific monsters you’ll be encountering in
the next
several missions. Also, there is a quest In the Name of Science that
mages and melees
alike would be interested in.
Once you’re done exploring around, gather your friends and
reform that static party. There are four missions left and the reward
at the
end is well worth it.
Surf’s Up in Sea

If you are just arriving in Al’Taieu you won’t have any idea
where you are or where you should be going. Your first goal is those
spires you
can see on the horizon.

The Monsters guide has all the
information about monster
paterns in this sector, but here are the basics. Only two of the
monsters in Al’Taieu will actually threaten you. Ul'phauabos (known to
sea-goers
are either "sharks" or "stingrays") hover under the water. You
cannot
target them or see their name, but if you walk on top of them or in
front of
their very narrow sight cone, they will pop up from the water and
attack you.
The second aggro mob is a huge flying jellyfish named Yovra that is
commonly
called the
UFO. The UFOs are all Notorious Monsters and there are four of them in
Al’Taieu.
They are very powerful and can destroy a single party with ease. You
shouldn’t
be attacked by one at this point unless you’re going in the very wrong
direction, but
if you
do get ambushed, sleep it and run. They only drop down if you go
right beneath them. Watch the skies. Be afraid, be very afraid.

The Ul'hpemde mob (affectionately referened to as goldfish, or just
"FISHY!") will aggro you, but won’t actually
ATTACK you until you hurt it in some way. If you don’t hurt it then it
will
just follow you around. You can cast paralyze and slow and other
non-damage
moves and it still won’t being to attack. Very humorous, and useful if
you want
to farm them. Beware that summoned avatars will automatically attack
(and thus
start a battle with) Hpemde mobs that are following their master since
they do
technically aggro, so keep avatars put away in Al’Taieu. AoE moves that
hit Hpemdes will of course cause them to attack as well.

Also, scattered around Al’Taieu are Quasilumin NPCs. Talk to
each one of them for a bit of info on what’s going on here in Al’Taieu.
After
you talk to them all, talk to the last one again and you will receive a
map of
the area.
Navigate the paths of Al’Taieu until you find a large bridge
leading up to a Crystalline Field. Cutscene.

The Auroral Updraft that looks like a huge red pillar of
light (you saw this in the opening cutscene if you remember back that
far) will
take you back to the Sealion’s Den. It is at position (H-12). Talk to
Sueleen in the Den to
return to Al’Taieu.

Back to the mission. Once you have the cutscene at the
Crystalline Field you need to visit three Rubious Crystals. The first
crystal
is located at a small tower south of the bridge with the Crystalline
Field.
Checking a crystal will spawn three Ru’Aern NMs, each with their own
job and
appropriate 2-hours.
Southern tower NM jobs: samurai, warrior, white mage.

They are all named Ru’Aern so telling what job they are is
very difficult. It doesn’t much matter what order you kill them in.
Basically,
have the tank engage one while a black mage lays on an elemental-seal
sleepga.
The WAR has the most powerful 2-hour, but this set of Ru’Aerns isn’t
that
powerful. And by "not that powerful" I mean a party of 70s can take
them with relative ease. If you somehow killed Tenzen with a party
weaker than that, you'll have to work a little harder. Anyway, kill
them one by one, and then check the Rubious Crystal for
a
cutscene.

Death from Above and
Below
You must visit two more Rubious Crystal towers to
complete
this mission. One tower is northwest of your current position, and the
other is
northeast. Pick a direction and head out.

Remember that the only two mobs that attack you are either
underwater (Phuabos) or high in the sky (Yovas aka UFOs) so keep
scanning both
down and up
while running. The UFOs are much less common than the sharks, but
you’re bound
to pass at least one on the journey. Also, keep an eye out for
Quasilumin NPCs
to talk to for the map quest. Eventually the Ul' mobs will give way to
Om' mobs, which are the same enemies but about 5 levels higher.
Even though you don’t have a map, the Rubious
Crystal towers
are pretty tall and so it isn’t hard to find them if you keep going in
one
direction. Once you find a tower, touch the Rubious Crystal for another
3
Ru’Aerns and another cutscene at the end.
Eastern tower NM jobs: Monk, Paladin, Black Mage
Western tower NM jobs: Dark Knight, Ranger, Red Mage
The eastern tower has the most powerful NM, the
monk and
it’s Hundred Fists 2-hour. The black mage can also be potent. The only
dangerous NM at the western tower is the ranger, which can hit hard and
use
Eagle Eye Shot. The PLD, DRK, and RDM 2-hours won’t inflict serious
harm on
your party.

North of each of these two Rubious Crystal towers is another
Auroral Updraft. Thes will take you back to the Auroral Updraft
that leads
out of Al’Taieu. The east one is at (L-8) and the west one at (E-9)
They are surrounded by Phuabo mobs. If you get aggro,
sleep
them and use the Updraft anyway. Even though you don’t leave the zone,
this
will count as a “zone” as so the mobs that attacked you will lose their
targets
and not come after you.

Once you visit all three towers and get the three cutscenes
there, head back to the Crystalline Field
