Frequently Asked Questions

Back before I told everyone to leave me alone, I got a lot of emails asking basically the same questions. So here’s this page to try to address some common concerns.

Stuff that's been updated in the past year has an amazing and flashy NEW! next to it.

CoP Mission
questions

(for specific questions about a certain mission, see that mission’s page. Seriously. I’ve tried to add information based on emails I’ve gotten)

Q. Hey, I’ve got a party of these six jobs. Do you think I would do well on this certain battle?
A. I think I’ve done a good job on the individual mission pages explaining what jobs have an edge. If you don’t have any of the jobs I recommend, then there are two questions left. One, is your party grossly unbalanced? A party with four WHMs won’t do very well. Two, are you skipping out on recommended medicines / BCNM items / a lot of gear? If you said “no!” to both of those than your party will probably be able to win any of the fights.

Q. Any tips for finding people to go on missions with?
NEW! A. I get asked this a lot… the best way to recruit people is to give the impression you have some clue what you’re talking about. Read the mission details carefully, know exactly what’s coming, and generally try to give the impression that YES I know what I’m doing and NO this won’t turn into a 5-hour deathfest. You might also have some luck pointing out that you don't lose exp in BCNM fights, and that when you win you actually GAIN exp. 1000 or so exp isn't a half bad reward for helping people out.

Q. Is getting sea access worth it?

 A. I guess if you’re asking this then the “fun factor” is out of the question. Honestly, you could play FFXI without getting to Al’Tiaeu just fine. It’s not like sky where there’s so much good stuff that linkshells spend 24/7 there. If you’re in it for the items sea comes up shorter than sky. But Limbus is really enjoyable (think Dynamis in about half the time, more AF drops, and less links that wipe your alliance), there ARE a few gems of items, and blue mages will want to come here for their endgame spells. Eh, I’m not on SE’s payroll. Do the CoP missions if you want to.

For Glory Site Questions

Q. Update more!
A. That’s not a question.
Q. Even so.
A. Ugh. Maybe.

Q. Are you ever going to put videos on the site?
A. No. The bandwidth DEFINITELY can’t handle that.

Q. Are you ever going to put the script / an explanation of the story up on the site?
NEW! A. Maybe. That thing is on the list of sections to expand / complete.

Q. Are you going to write guides for the CoP dynamis areas?
NEW! A. I have beaten everything except Tavnazia now, but honestly it seems like there isn't any demand for guides about these as opposed to other sections.

Q. Can I use any of your material (text, screenshots, item pictures, etc) on my website?
A. Probably. Send me an email about it with the website URL. To people that have asked I’ve never said no.

Q. Hey, if I link to you will you link back to me?
A. A few people asked me this a while ago, but I was in a broody non-updating phase and forgot. I’m interested in being part of the community and will gladly do a link exchange thing with any decent FFXI site.

Q. I’ve got an awesome alternate strategy for a fight! If I email it to you will you put it on the site?
A. Okay, here’s the deal. Basically two types of people read this guide. 1) people that love to strategize and beat missions with oddball setups and in strange ways 2) people that don’t really care how they win as long as they do win. The first group wants all sorts of crazy advanced stuff. The second wants very straightforward, easy to read steps so that they can get the mission done as quickly as possible. I don’t make judgments on which group is better. However, I do keep in mind that both read this guide. So I’m very wary to add extremely difficult to explain information to the site. But you can email me things if you want, and if it seems simple enough I will put it up.

NEW! Q. Are you ever going to finish the CoP / ToAU / Limbus / Assaults / Storyline sections?
A. Maybe. Though if there's a certain part of the site you want to see complete, send me an email about it. Honestly at this point I update what people seem interested in.

NEW! Q. Are you going to make a Wings of the Goddess guide?
A. I'm not even cloes to done with my current projects! Can't time, like, stop still for a few months? No, but seriously, the reasons the ToAU guide faltered was because of a lack of fast progress on my part and other people throwing up quickie guides trying to do what I did with this site before I had a chance to do my stuff. I can promise this though: If I can get a good group together to storm WotG, I'll be more than happy to write about my travels.

Questions about Me

(my contact information is back on the Contact Me page)

Q. Are you a girl or a guy?
A. I’m a guy. Don’t be so disappointed!

Q. I thought you quit. You’re back now, or something?
NEW! A. I did quit for about 6 or 7 months. I got bored and came back. I have played full time since summer 07 and continue to play still.

Q. What server are you on?
A. Sylph

Q. Can you give me a Teleport-Dem?
A. No

NEW! Q. What jobs do you have?
A. WHM, BRD, and BLU at 75. PLD at 73 and kinda staying there since my linkshell has so many PLD tanks already. SMN at 64 and might be going up. Dancer at 0 and rising soon!

Various Random Questions

Q. How do I replay the cutscenes from the CoP missions?
A. A shocking amount of people don’t know this. If the cutscene occurred in a town, find a bard NPC that will allow you to view them. If it occurred in an area outside town, there is usually a Goblin Footprint near the zone in. Trade it any item (it doesn’t matter what and you don’t lose the item) and an NPC will appear and give you the same options.

You must go to the exact zone where you first saw the cutscene. If it happened in Lower Jeuno, find the bard NPC in Lower Jeuno, not Upper or any other part. If it happened in Monarch Linn, then Riverne Site#A01 isn’t good enough – you must actually go to Monarch Linn to see it. Kind of a hassle really.

Q. Those screenshots with the Congratulations! in them are cool, but I didn’t get that when I finished that mission! Did I do something wrong?!
A. Err, no. I used a Crackler (not a Cracker, different item), a rare firework that makes the Congratulations! appear. It’s not actually part of the mission. I just did it, like I do most things on the site, to be flashy.

Q. What’s good food for a dark knight at level 62?
A. Okay, look. Just because my head is crammed full of CoP tidbits doesn’t mean I’m a general repository of all knowledge about FFXI. As much as I hate to recommend them after someone copied and pasted my guide there, http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Main_Page does have a lot of that sort of information. You won’t find very good strategies there though, so at least I’m not totally obsolete.

Strangely, this isn't a joke question. I've been asked about DRK food in the 60's twice.

Q. What happened between you and the wiki anyway?
A. Read this for the gist of it. http://forums.ffxiclopedia.org/viewtopic.php?t=729 My reply is on page three
